Discovery India opts out of monthly TV ratings reporting - MAHI - 08-06-2013 10:37 PM

MUMBAI: Now here’s a further update on the
monthly rating vs weekly rating tussle. Last
weekend, we reported that Discovery Networks
India had written to TAM Media Research,
saying it wanted its channels to be reported on
a monthly basis, moving away from its weekly
routine.
Now, the latest unconfirmed reports are that
Discovery India – which has three channels
under its belt - has retracted and done an
absolute U-turn in double quick time.
It has written back to TAM saying it would like
reporting of its channels to revert to a weekly
basis once again. So now the group of eight
has once again shrunk to a group of seven
broadcast networks.
"In private jokes, some media buyers and
planners are referring to them as the Seven
Samurai - in memory of the characters in the
famed Akiro Kurosawa film of the same name,"
says a media observer all in chuckles.
Indiantelevision.com tried to get in touch with
TAM Media CEO LV Krishnan and Discovery
India boss Rahul Johri but did not get any
response.
